Thank you for this beautiful piece, Danielle. Navalny seems to have found the secret of being content in any situation, as did Paul. What a loss to Russia and to humanity. The ability to find humour in the darkest times must do something interesting to our brains and our souls. Maybe it opens us up more to wonder. The reversals and role-playing in comedy and the absurd certainly offer us a new perspective. We laugh, but then realise we might be laughing at ourselves. I am learning that if I can laugh at myself, I can be more humble. Maybe this is helping me be open to the humanity in others. I am intrigued to read Navalny’s book and to find out more about Bakhtin’s idea of carnivalesque. Very much looking forward to more from you about Holy Foolery.
